Create storage for the things that genuinely enter and leave the house there.
An entry table with drawers can work very well for small essentials.
But don't allow the entryway to become a drop zone for everything.
Mail, shoes, keys and bags should have specific homes rather than forming one large category called "I'll deal with this later."
